  • Just want to be clear – Technically there is motion blur in both of these clips, but in the second one there are two set. The first one is just my 600 FPS recording set down to 60 using Vegas Smart Resample, but in the second one I record in 600 FPS, but with in game motion blur, then compressed that recording back down to 60 with Smart Resample
I wasn't sure what to expect, personally I don't see a difference when looking back to what I recorded – if there's any it's very minimal to my eye when compressed down to 60 FPS – but there is a MAJOR difference when using it *in game*. Keep in mind, I did these clips back to back, but I put them in the reverse order. With this in mind, when I disabled Motion Blur, everything looked super choppy when just using 144 Hz alone. I can't say that this motion blur mimics a 240+ Hz monitor, as I've never tested 240 Hz for myself.
Also keep in mind that resample doesn't really accurately display a higher refresh rate. Sure, it looks faster when seeing a recording that you recorded higher than your refresh rate (Ex. I play in 144 Hz, but normally record around 480-600 FPS, and I notice a difference compared to 144 Hz – my recordings look faster than what I actually play), but Vegas is only displaying these "blur" frames that it's trying to compress down to what you render with, not actual frames you would see with the human eye.
I will make a separate video about this topic eventually – since we're close to 250 subscribers (literally just one subscriber away), I'm going to release my render settings and try my best to go in detail about all these settings I present. I've honestly been hesitant though, since the settings are not mine, and I always change them based on my preference on that day I record, but it's almost getting to the point where these "Render Settings Release" videos will be all the same because of loads of people starting to move towards a specific Ranked Sky Wars YouTuber.

  • Seemingly late to this, but since I tested this myself a couple days ago I might as well share what I found:

My tests were done at 1080p540fps with Lunar's motion blur set to 7 (I believe this is probably the best value at higher-end framerates for it apart from one issue it has that I'll mention later – I also tested with lower values than 7 but the results I got from that were quite disappointing)
There definitely was an evident difference between clips with & without Lunar's motion blur, but it wasn't exactly grand either. Here is my test: https://youtu.be/U2PurV6vSDA

What was also evident was a slight path that trailed anything effected by the blur (blocks, sword, etc). Here is an example of the aforementioned trail: https://i.imgur.com/UQ3iZLh.png (regular), https://i.imgur.com/Mzuomdc.png (boosted contrast for clarity). The intensity & visibility of this trail correlates to the level of the motion blur (the higher the level, the more intense the path – tends to become pretty pronounced at anything over 6)

In conclusion, I could definitely see Lunar's motion blur benefiting framerates like 240 and maybe 360 but looking at both mine (where the blur was visible but didn't contribute much) and your test (where the blur was barely visible unless I truly tried my hardest to see it) the quality tradeoff you undergo (caused by the trail) and pretty notable fps drop the motion blur causes is not worth the minimal benefits it brings at framerates over 480~. Maybe a good level 4 or 5 motion blur paired up with 240 / 360 fps recordings could look nice as long as you have enough fps for both the blur and your recording.

  • Hey do you know how to use ffmpeg for AMD? I canโ€™t notice much difference with motion blur on. I heard you said Techniqs discord server had it but his invite link is invalid. Can you tell me AMD gpu ffmpeg settings or just give invite? Nice vid btw.
